Colin Cowherd finally admits being wrong about his Dan Campbell criticism

The Detroit Lions have turned many skeptics into believers over the past few seasons, though some well-known analysts were slow to acknowledge their success.

Despite Detroit’s rise to dominance in the NFC North and their two playoff wins — once unimaginable achievements — some still questioned whether the franchise and its head coach, Dan Campbell, were truly legitimate contenders.

FOX Sports analyst Colin Cowherd had long been unsure about Campbell and the Lions, but after their dominant Monday Night Football showing, it appears he’s finally changed his stance.

“Once again, Dan Campbell’s culture-building, Ted Lasso-with-biceps energy was on full display Monday night, as they notched their fifth straight win,” Cowherd said.

“I’ll admit, I thought he was a meathead. That ‘biting kneecaps’ press conference threw me off. In the history of Colin right and Colin wrong, this is easily the most wrong I’ve ever been. Just like Baker Mayfield fits perfectly in Tampa Bay, Campbell is the ideal Lions coach forever. He’s a home run.”

Colin Cowherd finally concedes defeat in his take on Dan Campbell

Cowherd was thoroughly impressed with Campbell and the Lions’ overall performance, finally giving them the full respect they deserve. Regarding Campbell, he confessed he had been too quick to dismiss him as a poor hire, even referencing Ted Lasso to describe his leadership style.

The Lions remain unbeaten at home this year, largely thanks to Campbell’s influence. His unity with the front office and connection with players have defined Detroit’s success. It’s safe to say fans agree with Cowherd’s suggestion to keep Campbell for life, considering the decades of chaos before his arrival.

Cowherd watched closely as Detroit dismantled Tampa Bay in Week 7 and came away amazed by the team’s balance and mentality. He praised both sides of the ball for their physicality and focus.

In particular, Cowherd highlighted how running back Jahmyr Gibbs has blossomed into a star and noted how effortlessly Detroit overwhelmed a strong Buccaneers team, a top NFC opponent.

“Detroit’s offensive line and Jahmyr Gibbs played with unmatched intensity. They controlled the game completely. This team is deep and talented. Remember when people mocked Detroit for drafting Gibbs in the first round?” Cowherd added.

At the heart of it all is Campbell’s leadership.

Credit to Cowherd for acknowledging where he went wrong. Hopefully, he maintains this same honesty if the Lions hit a rough patch later this season.
