Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, recently announced an adorable new addition to their household — a golden retriever puppy named Lucy.
“New family member,” Kelly, 36, captioned an Instagram Story on Thursday, November 6, featuring a photo of Matthew, 37, carrying Lucy upstairs. Their other dog, George, waited at the top of the steps, seemingly ready to welcome his new playmate.
Kelly also shared several other sweet moments on her Story, including their daughter Hunter taking Lucy for a walk, the pup joining her for “school pickup,” and both dogs relaxing together on the couch.
The Staffords have always had a deep love for dogs. Before adopting George in 2023, they lost their beloved 13-year-old companion, Marley. Kelly reflected on that loss in an emotional Instagram post at the time.
“Even though we know dogs won’t live as long as we do, it still hits so hard,” she wrote. “This morning, I woke up without the little face I’ve seen for 13 years. The room felt emptier, the bed colder, and when I saw the empty dog bed beside me, the tears just came.”
Lucy’s arrival comes at a time when Kelly is stepping away temporarily from her podcast, The Morning After, to focus on her mental health. On the October 2 episode, she told listeners she planned to take roughly a month-long break.
“I’ve been struggling to figure out where I want to take this,” she admitted. “I love doing this show — it’s like another one of my kids — but my family will always come first. I have four daughters and a husband who mean everything to me.”
Kelly and Matthew are parents to twins Sawyer and Chandler, 8, Hunter, 7, and Tyler, 5.
“I hope this podcast has been a source of laughter or comfort for you,” she added. “We’re all figuring things out together, and that’s okay.”
Kelly mentioned that her decision to step back might even surprise Matthew but clarified that she isn’t ending the podcast permanently.
“For now, I just need to pause and regroup — partly for my mental health and partly because it’s midseason and there have been a lot of changes,” she explained. “This isn’t goodbye, just a breather.”
Meanwhile, Matthew Stafford continues to shine on the field. The Rams currently hold a 6–2 record after a dominant 34–10 victory over the New Orleans Saints. With 21 touchdowns and just two interceptions through eight games, he’s emerging as an early contender for his first NFL MVP title.
