Jared Goff explains the Lions’ struggles in their Sunday night defeat to the Eagles

Jared Goff offered an honest assessment of what derailed the Detroit Lions during their Sunday Night Football defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.

One week after hanging 44 points on the Washington Commanders, Detroit managed only nine against Philadelphia. The Eagles’ defensive strategy effectively neutralized Goff, and the Lions slid to 6–4, surrendering first place in the NFC North. It marked another setback in a season where Detroit has already fallen short in big matchups against the Packers (27–13 in Week 1), Chiefs (30–17 in Week 6), and now the Eagles.

Speaking with 97.1 The Ticket on Tuesday, Goff acknowledged that Detroit simply didn’t perform in the moments that mattered.

“Just not good enough,” he said, explaining that despite moving the ball well at times, the Lions repeatedly stalled in high-leverage situations. “We had plenty of yards, but we weren’t sharp on third and fourth downs or in the red zone. That’s how you lose games.”

Goff credited Philadelphia’s defense but emphasized that the Lions’ struggles were largely self-inflicted.

“I’m not taking anything away from them — they’re a really good team,” he said. “But most of it was us getting in our own way. I have to be better with my accuracy, and everyone on offense knows we’ve got to step it up.”

The veteran quarterback completed just 14 of 37 passes for 255 yards and one touchdown, while also throwing a pick and taking two sacks. Detroit’s inconsistency remains a theme — alternating dominant outings with performances reminiscent of their rebuilding years.

The Lions will face the New York Giants in Week 12 before entering a tough late-season slate that includes the Packers, Cowboys, Rams, Steelers, Vikings, and Bears from Weeks 13 through 18 as they attempt to finish strong.
