Gibbs give Detroit victory over the Giants 34–27 with an overtime heroics

Jahmyr Gibbs powered the Detroit Lions to a dramatic 34–27 overtime win against the New York Giants on Sunday at Ford Field.

The Giants struck first, jumping ahead 7–0 when Jameis Winston found Wan’Dale Robinson downfield for a 39-yard touchdown. New York extended the lead shortly after with a 21-yard Younghoe Koo field goal, giving them a 10–0 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Detroit finally answered when Jared Goff hit Amon-Ra St. Brown for an 11-yard score, trimming the deficit to 10–7. But the Giants responded quickly—Winston delivered another touchdown, this time a 12-yard strike to Isaiah Hodgins, pushing New York ahead 17–7.

The Lions tightened the gap again six minutes later when Gibbs caught a short 3-yard touchdown from Goff. The teams then exchanged field goals, sending New York into halftime with a 20–17 lead.

Neither side produced points in the third quarter, but New York opened the fourth with a creative trick play: Gunner Olszewski launched a 33-yard touchdown pass to Winston, stretching the Giants’ lead to 27–17.

Detroit leaned on Gibbs again, and he delivered—bursting free for a 49-yard touchdown run, pulling the Lions within 27–24. The score held until the final seconds of regulation, when kicker Jake Bates drilled a 59-yard field goal with 33 seconds left, tying the game at 27–27.

Overtime lasted only one play. Gibbs took the handoff, exploded through a lane, and sprinted 69 yards to the end zone, giving Detroit its first lead of the afternoon.

The Giants still had a chance, but Detroit’s defense held firm, turning New York over on downs to seal the victory.

Gibbs finished with a career-best performance: 15 rushes for 219 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, plus 11 receptions for 45 yards and another score.

Detroit now shifts its focus to a quick turnaround as they prepare to host the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving at 1 p.m. ET.
