Six days after an ankle injury left him unable to walk, Amon-Ra St. Brown delivered a standout performance for the Lions. The wideout, who hurt his ankle on Thanksgiving, said he woke up the next morning barely able to stand. Yet by Thursday night’s matchup against the Cowboys, he hauled in six receptions for 92 yards.

“After the game on Thursday, the ankle was really bad. Friday I couldn’t walk at all,” St. Brown explained afterward. “Saturday I could move a little, but it was still extremely painful. I honestly didn’t think I’d be able to go. Sunday I could walk again, but when I tried to jog, I couldn’t even get through warmups. I was pretty discouraged. Then Tuesday came and I finally felt improvement, and by Wednesday I knew I could give it a shot.”

He credited both his own determination and the Lions’ medical staff for helping him recover quickly.

“I was willing to do whatever I needed to just to be out there with my team,” he said. “Being available is huge in this league. My job is to play, to make plays, and to be on the field. Our trainers were incredible all week — they really helped get me ready.”

After the win, St. Brown said the ankle wasn’t bothering him too much in the moment, though he expected that to change once the medication wore off.

“It feels alright right now,” he said. “The meds help — tomorrow morning will probably be different — but at the moment it’s manageable.”
