After suffering an ankle injury on Thanksgiving, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown woke up the following Friday unable to walk. Remarkably, just six days later, he was back on the field, catching six passes for 92 yards in Detroit’s Thursday night victory over the Cowboys.
“After hurting it Thursday, I couldn’t walk on Friday,” St. Brown recounted. “Saturday I could barely move. At that point, I thought, ‘There’s no way I can play, it hurts too much.’ By Sunday, I could walk a bit better, tried jogging, but I couldn’t even get through warmups. I was feeling pretty down, thinking I might be out. Then Tuesday came and I felt some real improvement. By Wednesday, I felt confident enough to play.”
St. Brown credited both his determination and the Lions’ training staff for helping him get back on the field.
“I was going to do whatever it took to play, just to be there for my teammates,” he said. “Being available is the most important skill. My job is to make plays and be on the field, so I committed fully to getting back. The training staff was incredible—they really helped me recover.”
In the locker room after the game, he mentioned his ankle wasn’t bothering him too much, though he expects some soreness the next day.
“It feels okay,” he said. “It’s not too painful now, thanks to some medication. I’m sure I’ll feel it more by tomorrow morning, but right now it’s manageable.”
