The NFL controversy has led to intense criticism directed at Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is facing increasing criticism from New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, fueled by their long-standing rivalry.
The dispute revolves around their contrasting legacies, with Kraft feeling that his consistent achievements as an NFL owner are being overshadowed by Jones’ flashy persona, which he believes is hindering his own chances of being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.Jones acquired the Cowboys in 1989 for $140 million and rapidly transformed the team into both a financial and cultural powerhouse, earning it the moniker “America’s Team.”
Under Jones’ leadership, the Cowboys won three Super Bowls in the early 1990s and have since become the most valuable sports franchise globally, valued at over $9 billion.
His impressive business and on-field accomplishments led to his Hall of Fame induction in 2017, a move that reportedly upset Kraft.
Kraft, who has quietly built the New England Patriots into the NFL’s most successful franchise of the past two decades, reportedly questioned the Hall of Fame selection process.
“He hasn’t been to the NFC title game in two decades, and he gets in?” Kraft allegedly remarked, according to an ESPN report by Don Van Natta Jr.
This has intensified a subtle rivalry between the two owners, who have made significant impacts on the NFL in very different ways.
Jones is known for his flamboyant style, highlighted by the construction of the extravagant AT&T Stadium, or “Jerry World.”
Conversely, Kraft’s approach is more understated and strategic, but has been marred by controversies like “Spygate” and “Deflategate,” which have somewhat blemished his otherwise illustrious legacy.
Kraft’s frustration grows from the belief that Hall of Fame voters may have been influenced by Jones’ larger-than-life presence rather than recognizing Kraft’s steady contributions to the league.
Although Jones’ charisma has already secured his Hall of Fame spot, Kraft feels that his own recognition remains deservedly delayed.
