Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly Stafford, has opened up about why she doesn’t always wear her wedding ring — and the explanation is both practical and relatable.
As the Rams enter the NFL postseason, Stafford is aiming to add another championship ring to his résumé after leading Los Angeles to a Super Bowl LVI victory in 2022. The veteran quarterback, who recently drew praise from Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw as an NFL MVP favorite, remains focused on another deep playoff run as the Rams take the field as the No. 5 seed.
During a recent episode of her “Morning After” podcast, Kelly Stafford jokingly brought up the topic of wedding rings — specifically why her husband doesn’t wear one during games.
“You’ve noticed that men have started to wear rubber rings during games,” Kelly said playfully. “Why haven’t you?”
She quickly clarified the comment was lighthearted, admitting she doesn’t always wear her own ring either. Kelly explained that parenting four daughters makes it difficult to keep track of everything, including jewelry.
“Sometimes my ring stays upstairs,” Kelly shared. “We have kids. It’s a lot just keeping track of everything.”
The couple, who were married on April 4, 2015, laughed about the situation, with Kelly praising Stafford for only losing his wedding band once. That missing ring was later found inside one of her bags — a mishap Stafford took responsibility for.
While Matthew Stafford may skip wearing a wedding band on the field, there’s one accessory he never plays without: a rubber band on his wrist.
The 37-year-old quarterback explained that the habit dates back to his childhood, recalling how he used to grab rubber bands from his mother’s office and wear them while playing sports. The tradition stuck, and Stafford has worn one during every NFL game of his career.
There was only one scare when the rubber band snapped during a game against the San Francisco 49ers, but Rams equipment staff quickly provided a replacement on the sideline.
Stafford is expected to wear his signature rubber band once again when the Rams face the Carolina Panthers in the Wild Card Round, as he looks to continue his playoff success.
