Aaron Glenn’s Jets Prepare to Steal These Two Tough Defenders From Detroit

The New York Jets enter the 2026 offseason with major defensive needs and plenty of financial flexibility. With more than $83 million in salary cap space, the Jets are positioned to be aggressive in free agency as they look to rebuild their roster under head coach Aaron Glenn.

Despite a disappointing 2025 season, the Jets chose to retain Glenn, a decision that brings continuity after years of instability. The organization also reshaped its coaching staff by adding Frank Reich, a move viewed positively around the league. Now, attention shifts to roster upgrades — particularly players familiar with Glenn’s system.

Jets Linked to Former Lions Defenders

During an appearance on Jets Final Drive, The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt spoke with SNY’s Connor Hughes about New York’s offseason strategy. Rosenblatt reported that the Jets plan to target players who already understand Aaron Glenn’s defensive philosophy.

Two Detroit Lions defenders were mentioned as potential targets:

Alex Anzalone, linebacker

Amik Robertson, cornerback

Rosenblatt emphasized that bringing in former Glenn players could help establish the culture and identity Glenn wants for the Jets defense.

“They need to bring in somebody who has played for Aaron Glenn before to help establish what he’s looking for,” Rosenblatt said. “Alex Anzalone is the obvious one. I think he would be a Jet. But the Lions also have a cornerback named Amik Robertson… He’s a tough, hard-nosed kid who buys into everything Aaron Glenn is selling.”

Robertson, primarily a nickel corner, played a key role in Detroit’s secondary and developed a strong relationship with Glenn during his time with the Lions. Rosenblatt noted that the Jets could look to upgrade at cornerback despite having Jarvis Brownlee on the roster.

Jets Free Agency Strategy Taking Shape

According to Rosenblatt, New York is expected to be “actively” pursuing players who already understand Glenn’s approach, making Anzalone and Robertson logical fits. Both players are pending free agents, and their familiarity with Glenn’s system could accelerate the Jets’ defensive rebuild.

With free agency approaching and the rumor mill heating up, the New York Jets appear focused on adding leadership and scheme familiarity to their defense. Keep a close watch on Alex Anzalone and Amik Robertson as potential Jets targets in the coming weeks.
