Sports analyst proposes a wild $160 million Bears trade idea that could actually pay off

A Chicago sports radio personality has floated a bold offseason idea that could dramatically reshape the Bears’ future — and as wild as it sounds, it’s not entirely out of the question.

During an appearance on 104.3 The Score, FOX Sports host Danny Parkins urged the Bears to pursue a blockbuster trade for an elite edge rusher, specifically naming Raiders star Maxx Crosby and Browns standout Myles Garrett as potential targets. According to Parkins, adding a player of that caliber would instantly elevate Chicago’s championship outlook.

He noted that while Garrett recently signed a massive extension in Cleveland — making a deal seem unlikely — circumstances could shift. Former Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, whom Garrett reportedly respected, recently stepped down after missing out on a head coaching opportunity. Parkins also pointed out comments Garrett made on Micah Parsons’ podcast, where the All-Pro pass rusher expressed that his next career goal is winning a Super Bowl and earning Super Bowl MVP honors.

Given Cleveland’s current situation — uncertainty at quarterback, significant financial commitments to Deshaun Watson, a first-year head coach in Todd Monken, and multiple first-round draft picks — Parkins suggested the Browns might consider a reset. If that’s the case, trading a 30-year-old Defensive Player of the Year for several premium draft selections could make sense from a long-term roster-building standpoint.

Garrett remains one of the most dominant defensive players in football, coming off a historic season that included 23 sacks and another Defensive Player of the Year award. Although Cleveland has consistently indicated it has no intention of moving him, organizational changes could open the door to reconsideration.

For Chicago, the appeal is obvious. The Bears recorded just 35 sacks last season, with Montez Sweat leading the team at 10. Adding a game-changing edge presence opposite Sweat could transform the defense into one of the league’s most feared units. Some believe Chicago is only a premier pass rusher away from legitimate Super Bowl contention.

Acquiring Garrett would not come cheap — likely costing at least two first-round picks, and potentially three or more given his résumé and Hall of Fame trajectory. While the odds of a trade remain slim, the argument is simple: if a generational pass rusher becomes even remotely available, the Bears would be wise to explore every possible avenue to make it happen.
