Bears Eye Detroit Lions’ 613-Tackle Veteran as Star LB Replacement

According to Jeremy Fowler, the Bears have been linked to veteran linebacker Alex Anzalone as a possible replacement for Tremaine Edmunds, who is entering free agency.

Fowler noted that Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has a prior connection with Anzalone from their time together with the New Orleans Saints, making the veteran linebacker a logical target.

Chicago’s defense showed promise last season under Allen, particularly in forcing turnovers. Edmunds was a key contributor, finishing the year with four interceptions. However, with his future uncertain, the Bears may need to find a reliable replacement at the off-ball linebacker position.

Anzalone, a former third-round pick in the National Football League draft, spent last season with the Detroit Lions and delivered a productive campaign. The nine-year veteran started 16 games and recorded 95 tackles, one interception, nine passes defended, 2.5 sacks, four tackles for loss and six quarterback hits.

He also impressed in pass coverage, allowing a 78.6 passer rating while adding 11 quarterback pressures.

If the Bears move forward with Anzalone in free agency, he could provide an experienced and versatile presence to help stabilize Chicago’s linebacker corps for the 2026 season.
