After weeks of anticipation, the Detroit Lions’ 2026 NFL schedule has officially been revealed. The team will kick off the new season on September 13 at Ford Field, hosting the New Orleans Saints in downtown Detroit.
Following the season opener, Detroit will travel on the road for a historic matchup against the Buffalo Bills. The game will mark the first time a visiting team plays the Bills in their brand-new stadium.
Another highlight of the schedule is the Lions’ international appearance. Detroit will face the New England Patriots in Munich, Germany, playing at Allianz Arena. The matchup will be the franchise’s first game outside the United States since back-to-back international contests in London during 2014 and 2015.
Lions’ Schedule Release Video Sparks Debate
To unveil their schedule, the Lions released a short video featuring head coach Dan Campbell pinning the schedule to a bulletin board outside his office while commentators discussed Detroit’s chances for the upcoming season.
The clip was extremely brief and straightforward, lasting just 33 seconds. While some NFL observers criticized the video for lacking creativity, many Lions fans quickly defended the team’s approach on social media.
A post from MLFootball on X (formerly Twitter) suggested fans were upset with the simplicity of the video, calling it one of the “most boring schedule release videos of all time.” However, many Detroit supporters pushed back on that narrative.
One fan wrote that the simple presentation was “straight business” and preferable to teams attempting humor that sometimes falls flat. Another supporter explained that the message fits the team’s mentality of blocking out outside noise and focusing on the job ahead.
Others echoed similar sentiments, saying the video reflected the organization’s seriousness and focus heading into the new season. Even a non-Lions fan chimed in to say the message appeared to emphasize that the schedule itself doesn’t change the work that still needs to be done.
Detroit Lions Looking to Bounce Back in 2026
The Lions are entering the 2026 season motivated to rebound after finishing 9–8 in 2025, narrowly missing the NFL playoffs. Detroit hopes to return to the form that helped define the team during its strong 2023 and 2024 campaigns.
Among the notable games on the 2026 schedule is Detroit’s annual Thanksgiving Day matchup, where the Lions will host the division rival Chicago Bears at Ford Field.
With a challenging schedule that includes international travel, a historic road game in Buffalo, and several key NFC matchups, Detroit will aim to prove that last season’s playoff absence was only a temporary setback.
