The New York Jets have added another former player from the Detroit Lions organization. On Thursday, the team announced the signing of veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick, reuniting him with head coach Aaron Glenn.
To make room for the move, the Jets released kicker Will Ferrin.
Patrick spent the 2024 season in Detroit, which was Glenn’s final year with the Lions before becoming the Jets’ head coach. During that season, the veteran receiver recorded 33 receptions for 394 yards and three touchdowns, starting nine games.
Tim Patrick’s Recent NFL Production
After leaving Detroit, Patrick played the 2025 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He appeared in 16 games with three starts, finishing with 15 receptions for 187 yards and three touchdowns.
Patrick also has ties to Jets general manager Darren Mougey, who previously worked in the front office of the Denver Broncos when Patrick began his NFL career.
According to Jets team reporter Eric Allen, Mougey was with the Broncos when Patrick entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017.
Tim Patrick’s NFL Career Path
Patrick originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2017 but was released during the offseason. He later joined the San Francisco 49ers during the preseason before being waived again.
His breakthrough opportunity came with the Broncos in October 2017. Patrick made his NFL debut the following year and developed into a reliable receiving option in Denver.
During his first four seasons with the Broncos, Patrick totaled 143 receptions for 2,009 yards and 12 touchdowns.
However, injuries disrupted the later stages of his Broncos tenure. He missed the 2022 season after tearing his ACL in training camp and suffered a torn Achilles in July 2023, which sidelined him again.
After recovering, Detroit signed Patrick to its practice squad following the 2024 preseason.
Aaron Glenn Facing Pressure With the Jets in 2026
Glenn previously built a strong reputation as defensive coordinator for the Lions under head coach Dan Campbell. In Glenn’s final season with Detroit, the team finished with an NFL-best 15–2 record.
However, his first season leading the Jets did not go as planned. New York finished 3–14, raising questions about Glenn’s long-term future with the franchise.
Several analysts have already placed Glenn on the NFL’s 2026 coaching hot seat. SB Nation’s James Dator listed him among six head coaches facing pressure heading into the season.
According to Dator, Glenn will likely need to show clear progress in 2026, possibly reaching five or more wins, to demonstrate that the Jets are moving in the right direction.
If the team fails to improve, the Jets’ front office could consider making a coaching change.
