In both the NFL and college football, quarterback comparisons are abundant. Whether stemming from a remarkable throw, a standout performance in a crucial game, or a particular skill, player comparisons arise in various contexts.

However, certain NFL quarterbacks stand out above the rest. Icons like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Aaron Rodgers set the gold standard.

This context makes former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman’s recent remarks about Dak Prescott particularly significant. The NFL analyst and Hall of Famer turned heads when he compared Prescott to not one, but two of those elite players.

In an interview with Sportsradio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket, Aikman commended Prescott’s ability to enhance the performance of his wide receivers and pass-catchers. He noted Prescott’s ball placement, likening it to that of Mahomes and Rodgers.

“A quarterback can deliver the ball in ways that don’t require a receiver to be exceptional to make a play, allowing for opportunities that give your team the best chance,” Aikman said.

“We’ve seen that from Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers over the years. I believe we’ve seen it from Dak as well.”

Prescott displayed some of that Mahomes-like magic in the Cowboys’ Week 5 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. After a rocky start that included three turnovers (two in the red zone), the three-time Pro Bowler rose to the occasion late in the game. He orchestrated two scoring drives in the fourth quarter and threw the game-winning touchdown with 20 seconds left.

Aikman’s acknowledgment of Prescott’s skill set alongside Mahomes and Rodgers is high praise. Prescott’s ability to elevate his teammates has long been a strength and undoubtedly influenced the Cowboys’ decision to make him the NFL’s highest-paid player.
