man is found guilty of assault by Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey and a jury, receiving a 65-year sentence.
Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, serving on a jury in a domestic violence case in Tarrant County since last Tuesday, participated in finding Daniel Rincones guilty on one of two assault charges.
The jury sentenced Rincones to 65 years in prison.
While the jury acquitted him of assault-strangulation, his lengthy sentence resulted from his status as a repeat offender, having previously been convicted of aggravated sexual assault in February 2019. Court records indicate that Rincones’ offenses were directed at a member of his household.
During jury selection, Judge David Hagerman, who oversees the 297th District Court, outlined the trial schedule and inquired about any travel plans from prospective jurors. Defense attorney Rob Keating recalled that one juror mentioned a work trip scheduled for Saturday, but it did not interfere with the trial.
Keating noted that the juror, Aubrey, did not disclose his profession as a Cowboy, although Judge Hagerman and others present likely recognized him.
The topic of Aubrey’s job did not come up again during the proceedings.
Keating refrained from commenting on whether prosecutors or defense attorneys had discussions with Aubrey in the jury room after the verdict, as such informal interactions are not unusual.
Aubrey was not the jury’s foreman, a role typically associated with a quarterback. Following the sentencing, victim Tiffany Rincones, Daniel’s ex-wife, expressed gratitude to Tarrant County for enabling her to protect others from her former husband’s violent behavior.
After completing his jury duty, Aubrey returned to the Cowboys facility on Wednesday afternoon. He was selected for the jury the previous Tuesday and missed a scheduled practice with the team.
Despite the trial, he managed to join his special teams unit in Frisco after the court days. In the one game played during the case,
Aubrey successfully converted his sole field goal attempt and all three extra point attempts, demonstrating his continued performance amid the legal procee
