The Detroit Lions have selected Danny Brown from Grand Rapids South Christian High School as their High School Football Coach of the Week.
Detroit, MI – The Detroit Lions have honored Danny Brown from Grand Rapids South Christian High School as the week two recipient of the 2024 High School Football Coach of the Week Program.
Brown’s team, the Sailors, defeated East Grand Rapids 42-28, improving their season record to 2-0.
South Christian is currently ranked No. 1 in Division 4. On September 13th, the Sailors will face Grand Rapids West Catholic in their third-ever matchup.
Brown is in his 14th year coaching high school football, with all 14 years spent at South Christian.
He has served as head coach for six seasons, leading the Sailors to a Division 4 State Championship in 2022 and a state runner-up finish in 2023. With a 48-15 overall record, Brown has guided the Sailors to the playoffs every season.
Before becoming head coach, he was an assistant for eight seasons, winning state championships in 2012 and 2014.
Brown, a South Christian alumnus, also won a state championship as a player in 2002.
Detroit Lions Football Education spoke with Brown about the recent victory over East Grand Rapids, his unique experience of winning state championships as both a player and coach, and South Christian’s involvement in Victory Day. Brown was notified of his Coach of the Week award on Head Coach Hangout.
The High School Football Coach of the Week Program recognizes a coach each week for their success on and off the field, player development, and emphasis on player safety.
Winners receive a $1,000 donation to their school’s football program. At the end of the season, the Coach of the Year will be awarded $3,000.
The program, in its 28th year, has distributed $503,000 to Michigan high school football programs.
