Shocking: Shooter from Detroit Lions Tailgate Party Will Not Be Charged

Thousands of fans gathered at Eastern Market on Sunday to tailgate for the Detroit Lions game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The festive atmosphere was shattered when two men were shot following a fight at Shed 6.

Eastern Market Corp. announced they will collaborate with local law enforcement to investigate the incident after the Lions game and tailgating festivities.

Police reported that a preliminary investigation found that 25-year-old Jalen Welch became involved in a dispute with a 40- year-old man, who then opened fire, resulting in Welch’s death.

A bystander was also injured and later died at a nearby hospital.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy indicated that the shooter acted in self-defense, stating that Welch had drawn a weapon first.

Head Coach Dan Campbell referred to the Eastern Market shooting, which left two victims dead during the tailgating event, as “tragic.”

He expressed sympathy, saying, “whoever that is has a family, and I’m thinking about them.

My prayers go out to them, their family, and friends. It’s unfortunate…”
