Jared Goff delivers a flawless game for the Lions, featuring a 70-yard pass to Jameson Williams.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff had an impressive performance on Monday night, completing all 18 of his pass attempts during a 42-29 win against the Seattle Seahawks.
Goff’s standout play included a 70-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jameson Williams, which accounted for a significant portion of his total 292 passing yards.
This touchdown marked another successful connection for Goff and Williams, who have now combined for five touchdowns in regular-season games, with each scoring play covering at least 32 yards.
The touchdown from Goff to Williams helped the Lions extend their lead to 35-20 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter, surpassing their previous longest touchdown connection of 52 yards in the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
In addition to the long touchdown pass, Goff added a second touchdown to his stats later in the game, completing an 8-yard pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown with 5:23 left on the clock, pushing the score to 42-27 in favor of Detroit.
Notably, Goff made history by becoming the first player in NFL history to throw more than 10 passes in a game without recording a single incompletion.
Goff also showcased his versatility by catching a touchdown pass himself, completing a 7-yard throw from St. Brown, further highlighting the Lions’ offensive prowess.
Detroit’s offense was not solely dependent on the passing game.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs, also an Alabama alum, contributed significantly with 78 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
Gibbs found the end zone with a 3-yard run early in the second quarter and added another touchdown with a 1-yard run just before halftime.
In terms of receiving, Williams ended the game with two receptions totaling 80 yards, including the pivotal touchdown.
On the other side of the field, Seattle quarterback Geno Smith had a solid outing, completing 38 of 56 passes for 395 yards, along with one touchdown and one interception.
Running back Kenneth Walker was a standout for the Seahawks, rushing for 80 yards and scoring three touchdowns on 12 carries. Wide receiver DK Metcalf also had a notable game with seven receptions for 104 yards.
The game featured multiple players with ties to Alabama high schools and colleges.
Terrion Arnold, a cornerback for the Lions, made a solid impact with five tackles and one pass breakup.
His teammate, safety Brian Branch, was inactive for the game due to a concussion.
Another cornerback for Detroit, Carlton Davis from Auburn, also had a strong performance, recording seven tackles, a tackle for loss, and three pass breakups.
Notably, he recovered a fumble, returning it 49 yards to set up the Lions’ second touchdown, marking the fifth-longest fumble return by an Auburn alumnus in NFL history.
Derick Hall, an Auburn product, started at outside linebacker for the Seahawks and contributed four tackles along with one sack. Additionally, Jarran Reed, another Alabama alum, started at defensive end for Seattle, tallying four tackles and one sack as well.
While Josh Jobe from Alabama is on the Seahawks’ practice squad and not eligible to play, several other players from Alabama colleges participated in the game.
Lions defensive tackle Brodric Martin, who attended Northridge and North Alabama, is currently on injured reserve and did not play.
Seahawks outside linebacker Jamie Sheriff from South Alabama is also on the practice squad and was not eligible for this matchup.
Looking ahead, Seattle, now with a 3-1 record, will face the New York Giants on October 6 at 3:25 p.m.
