According to an NFL Insider, the Detroit Lions Still Have a Shot at Landing Raiders’ Maxx Crosby, Who is Worth $94 Million
There remains hope for the Detroit Lions to secure a deal for Maxx Crosby, as suggested by a former NFL player and current broadcaster. Despite fan favorite Crosby’s desire to stay with the Las Vegas Raiders, joining the Lions could provide a better chance at the Super Bowl. A former NFL player, T.J. Lang, believes there’s still a possibility for Crosby’s transfer to Detroit.
Crosby, a native of Lapeer, Michigan, who played at Eastern Michigan, would be an excellent replacement for Aidan Hutchinson, currently sidelined with a broken tibia. With 6.5 sacks this season, Crosby’s value continues to rise.
Lang commented on 97.1 The Ticket, according to Sports Illustrated, that the idea of Crosby moving to Detroit is still plausible. “Crosby may realize the Raiders are going nowhere and might consider the right fit,” he said. “I’m not claiming it will happen, but the door isn’t entirely shut.”
Lang believes Crosby might be “open to a trade” without explicitly seeking one. “I don’t think hope is lost for Crosby being receptive to a trade,” Lang remarked. “However, it doesn’t guarantee the Lions will acquire him.”
In a USA Today article from October 25, NFL analyst Jacob Camenker listed potential landing spots for top players, including Crosby. “The Lions would be an ideal destination for Crosby,” Camenker wrote.
“With Hutchinson out for the season, Crosby could provide similar impact, reminiscent of the No. 2 pick in the 2022 Draft who led the NFL in sacks prior to his injury.” Camenker also highlighted Crosby’s Michigan connections, stating, “Having spent part of his childhood in Michigan and played at Eastern Michigan, if he leaves the Raiders, Detroit is a perfect fit. While unlikely, there’s a small chance before the trade deadline.”
However, Crosby has expressed his preference for staying in Las Vegas. In the October 22 episode of his podcast, “The Rush with Maxx Crosby,” he said, “I want to be [in Las Vegas]. I want to wear silver and black.” He did acknowledge, though, that “it’s a business” and he doesn’t have “complete control” over his future.
Crosby signed a four-year, $94 million contract with the Raiders in 2022, earning $23.5 million annually. Drafted in the fourth round in 2019, he has remained a Raider since then.
