The Washington Commanders will return to Northwest Stadium in Week 12, eager to break a two-game losing streak as they take on the Dallas Cowboys.
Head coach Dan Quinn, who served as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023, now leads Washington in this important divisional clash with major implications for the NFC East standings.
During his time in Dallas, Quinn helped revamp the defense, but his Washington team has struggled, particularly against the run.
Through the first 11 games of the season, the Commanders rank 30th in rush defense, allowing 152.1 rushing yards per game—a significant increase from the 112.4 yards per game allowed by Quinn’s Cowboys in 2023.
Washington’s recent losses have highlighted these defensive shortcomings, as they surrendered 140 rushing yards in a narrow 28-27 loss to the Steelers and 228 yards in a 26-18 defeat to the Eagles.
When asked about facing his former team, Quinn spoke about his connections with those he worked with in Dallas.
“I think I’m a little older now. Early in your career, you might feel differently. But it’s more about seeing the people you coached with and worked with. I have a lot of respect for the people there.
They made a big impact on me both professionally and personally,” Quinn explained.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys are struggling after suffering their fifth consecutive home loss, a 34-10 setback against the Texans.
Sitting in third place in the NFC East, Dallas has had offensive issues, scoring just one touchdown in their latest loss.
For the Commanders, this game is more than just a chance to snap their losing streak—it’s an opportunity to prove they’re still in the hunt for the NFC East title.
A win would keep Washington within striking distance of the division leaders, the Eagles.
Additionally, a solid performance would reinforce Quinn’s leadership as the team aims to overcome recent defensive struggles and build momentum for the remainder of the season.
