Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings are anticipated to battle for the opportunity to sign an All-Pro player.

The Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings are usually focused on their on-field battles, competing for the NFC North Divisional title. This season is no different, as both teams share the same record going into their crucial Week 17 matchups. Each team still has a shot at securing the top seed and a first-round playoff bye in the NFC.

Although the Lions defeated the Vikings 31-29 earlier, if Minnesota beats Detroit in the season finale and defeats Green Bay on Sunday, Coach of the Year candidate Kevin O’Connell will secure the NFC’s top seed. However, the two teams could soon be vying for the opportunity to sign an All-Pro player.

Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings eye Calais Campbell

Six-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Calais Campbell may soon find himself with a team that’s been eliminated from playoff contention. While the 7-8 Miami Dolphins still have a chance, their playoff hopes could end this weekend.

If the Dolphins are eliminated, it’s expected that the 38-year-old All-Pro will be released from their roster. As a vested veteran, Campbell would go through the NFL waiver process, giving teams with the worst records a shot to claim him first.

However, there’s growing belief that several NFL contenders are eyeing Campbell. According to Dolphins insider Omar Kelly, the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Kansas City Chiefs are all expected to make a claim.

“The Kansas City Chiefs, pursuing a third consecutive Super Bowl, might offer Campbell his best chance at a ring. Imagine the impact of playing alongside Chris Jones. However, the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings are also said to be interested, and may file a waiver claim to strengthen their roster and block the Chiefs from adding the third-ranked active sack leader.”

For Campbell, the opportunity to chase his first Super Bowl ring with any of these teams would be special. In Kansas City, he could make history by helping the team win three straight championships. Meanwhile, Detroit, dealing with several injuries, could benefit from Campbell’s experience, and the Vikings, who’ve struggled to find elite defensive linemen, might value his veteran leadership too.
