Fan Reactions Pour In After Bears Bring Ben Johnson On Board

Ben Johnson, the former offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, likely anticipated leading the team for at least a few more weeks. However, his season ended abruptly following a crushing 45-31 Wild Card defeat to the Washington Commanders, which led to Johnson becoming the most sought-after coaching candidate on the market.

On Monday afternoon, the Chicago Bears moved quickly to secure his services, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting that Johnson was finalizing a deal to join the Bears, the Lions’ NFC North rivals.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell had already acknowledged after the loss that he would lose both Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to head coaching opportunities elsewhere.

What Campbell didn’t foresee, however, was that Johnson would be positioned to face off against him twice a season.

Fans immediately shared their opinions on the news.

It was inevitable that Johnson would soon land a head coaching position, and now the Bears will have one of the league’s most promising and dynamic young offensive minds to pair with 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams at quarterback.

This move makes perfect sense after drafting a Heisman-winning QB first overall, especially considering the Bears’ offense struggled during Caleb’s rookie campaign despite his impressive individual numbers.

Now that Detroit has lost its main offensive architect, the team faces a challenging task to replace him.

The developing rivalry will be intriguing as Johnson now faces the Lions twice every season.
