Detroit Lions

Two major losses are expected for the Lions by the close of this week.

The Detroit Lions’ season ended in disappointment. Despite finishing with a 15-2 record and securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC, they were eliminated early in the playoffs.

The Washington Commanders defeated Detroit 45-31, sending them home. Quarterback Jared Goff had a rough outing with four turnovers, but received support from head coach Dan Campbell and several teammates in the locker room.

As the offseason begins, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Lions expect both offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to secure head coaching roles this week.

Lions Rumors: Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn Are Expected To Get Head Coaching Jobs Schefter noted that Detroit’s early playoff exit sped up the hiring process. Both Johnson and Glenn are among the top coaching candidates in the league.

Johnson is highly regarded as one of the brightest offensive minds in the NFL and has been linked to teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears. However, the Las Vegas Raiders have recently gained traction as a destination for him.

This season, Detroit ranked second in the NFL in total offense (409.5), second in passing offense (263.2), sixth in rushing offense (146.4), and first in scoring offense (33.2).

On the other hand, Glenn helped lead the Lions’ defense, despite numerous injuries. He is highly regarded for his leadership skills and is considered ready to take the next step. Possible landing spots for Glenn include the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints.

Regardless of where they end up, Johnson and Glenn are expected to be absent from the Lions’ sideline in 2025. While many key players are returning, Detroit’s coaching staff will look different moving forward.
