Sevilla has signed a new Nigerian striker from Ligue 1 on a 4.5-year contract.

Sevilla have confirmed the acquisition of a new striker to help resolve their scoring woes. Nigerian forward Akor Adams, who will wear the number 15 shirt, has signed a 4.5-year contract after successful talks last week.

Adams joins from Montpellier in Ligue 1, where he has featured in 15 matches this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists. Last year, he reached double digits in goals, playing as the starting striker for the French club.

The transfer, valued at €5m, appears to have been financed by Gonzalo Montiel’s departure to River Plate. Adams is expected to be available for coach Garcia Pimienta’s squad ahead of their upcoming match against Getafe. He joins fellow Nigerians Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho at the club, though Iheanacho is likely to leave in January.

At 190cm, Adams adds a physical presence up front, offering Sevilla a target man. While his goal-scoring record at Montpellier and his previous club Lillestrom in Norway hasn’t been prolific, he should help create opportunities for top scorer Dodi Lukebakio, potential partner Isaac Romero, and new arrival Ronald Vargas.

With just 24 goals in La Liga after 21 matches, Sevilla’s attacking reinforcement became a priority for Sporting Director Victor Orta. Initially, they pursued Juninho Vieira from Qarabag, but after that move fell through, they shifted their focus to Adams. Garcia Pimienta has previously used target men in his possession-based system, though the results have been mixed in terms of goals, with Munir El Haddadi eventually overtaking Sory Kaba in the pecking order.
