Aston Villa are keen on signing Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel as John Duran nears a transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, according to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
The Villa Park club have swiftly found a potential replacement for the Colombian, but they will need to offer around €60 million to secure the Bundesliga talent.
Villa will face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Arsenal for Tel’s signature, with seven clubs already showing interest and more likely to follow.
The 19-year-old French forward has been compared to Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema for his speed, finishing, and dribbling skills, qualities Villa could certainly benefit from.
The Midlands side require added depth in attack to finish the 2024-25 season strong, and acquiring Tel would provide a significant boost following Duran’s likely departure.
Villa will also aim to ward off any Arsenal attempt to sign Ollie Watkins, as the Gunners are expected to bid for the English forward before the January transfer window closes.
Manager Unai Emery needs to keep hold pof Watkins while also securing another high-quality attacking option for the remainder of the season, and Tel is a perfect fit given his immense talent and potential.
Currently in the Champions League round of 16 after qualifying automatically for the knockout stages, Villa are eighth in the Premier League after 23 matches, just four points off the top four.
A solid finish to the season is crucial for European qualification next year, and the success of their signings before next Monday’s deadline will play a major role in that.
