JJ Redick shares his thankful perspective on the Lakers’ Anthony Davis transaction.

LOS ANGELES – As the Los Angeles Lakers geared up for their game against the Los Angeles Clippers, the buzz was centered around the Lakers’ recent blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic. During his pregame press conference, Lakers head coach JJ Redick took a moment to reflect on his time coaching Anthony Davis after the trade.

“It was certainly a difficult decision,” Redick remarked. “AD, in particular, is a superstar who welcomed a first-year rookie head coach with open arms. It’s been amazing to work with him and witness his performance night after night.”

Earlier, during Luka Doncic’s introductory press conference, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka noted that the team’s roster would be built to align with Redick’s vision, as reported by Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

While roster decisions ultimately rest with the general manager and owner, it’s clear that Redick is also seen as a key decision-maker. When Redick first interviewed for the role, this was the type of influence he had envisioned in the position.

“It was a topic we discussed during the interview process with Rob and Jeannie [Buss], and we all agreed that for the Lakers organization to operate at a high level, we needed alignment between ownership, the front office, and coaching,” Redick explained. “That doesn’t mean it’s always going to be easy or without tough decisions, but it’s happened. And going forward, it definitely boosts your confidence as a coach.”

Luka Doncic’s new chapter with the Lakers

While Doncic is not yet ready to play, he attended the team’s game against the Clippers, which brought excitement to Lakers fans.

Fans eagerly await Doncic’s Lakers debut

Still recovering from a calf injury sustained on Christmas Day against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Doncic has yet to play. However, the Lakers are reportedly targeting Saturday’s home game against the Indiana Pacers for his potential debut in a Lakers uniform.

Despite the usual adjustments following a major trade, Redick is confident that LeBron James and Doncic will quickly form chemistry.

“I believe we can figure out how to combine their talents effectively, and it won’t take long,” Redick said.

The pairing of James and Doncic provides the Lakers with two elite ball-handlers and playmakers, along with impressive scoring potential. Both players can threaten a triple double on any given night, and Redick is eager to see them play together.

“You have two players with exceptional basketball IQs, and I’m confident that whether they’re playing a two-man game, a three-man game, or even playing without each other, they’ll be productive,” Redick explained. “They’ll succeed. Both of them have a killer mentality, and that’s very exciting.”
