Report: Lakers acquire center Mark Williams from Hornets in NBA trade

The Los Angeles Lakers traded for center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for rookie Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2031 unprotected first-round draft pick, and a swap of 2030 first-round picks, according to multiple sources.

Standing 7 feet tall and weighing 241 pounds, Williams helps fill the gap left by Anthony Davis, who was traded to the Dallas Mavericks late Saturday in a high-profile deal for guard Luka Doncic, which also involved other assets.

Williams, 23, has averaged 15.6 points and 9.6 rebounds over 23 games (20 starts) for the Hornets this season. The No. 15 overall pick in the 2022 draft out of Duke, Williams has recorded 11.6 points and 8.3 rebounds in three seasons and 85 games (56 starts) with Charlotte.

Having faced injuries throughout his early NBA career, Williams missed time earlier this season due to a tendon injury in his left foot. He has also dealt with a back problem, thumb surgery, and several left ankle sprains in previous seasons.

Knecht, 23, is a talented long-range shooter who was selected by the Lakers with the No. 17 pick in the most recent draft. He has averaged 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 48 games (12 starts).

Knecht set a career high of 37 points and tied a rookie record with nine 3-pointers in a win over the Utah Jazz on Nov. 19.

Reddish, 25, another Duke product, has been limited to 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in 31 games (eight starts) due to a right ankle sprain.

Over six seasons, Reddish has averaged 8.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 252 games (116 starts) for the Atlanta Hawks (2019-2022), New York Knicks (2022-2023), Portland Trail Blazers (2023), and Lakers.
