BYU Football Reveals Captains for Annual Alumni Game
PROVO, Utah — BYU football will host its alumni game at the conclusion of spring practice for the fourth year in a row.
This beloved tradition, which began in 2022, returns to LaVell Edwards Stadium after a one-year hiatus due to field renovations. The game will kick off at 6 p.m. (MST) on Friday, March 28, and fans can attend for free.
Three weeks ahead of the game, BYU football unveiled the captains for this year’s event.
Austin Collie and Reno Mahe Named Captains for BYU Alumni Game
Former BYU wide receivers Austin Collie (2004, 2007-2008) and Reno Mahe (1998, 2001-2002) will serve as captains for the 2025 Alumni Game.
This marks the first time that BYU has chosen non-quarterbacks as captains for the Alumni Game. Past captains have included notable quarterbacks such as Ty Detmer (Heisman Trophy winner), Max Hall, John Beck, and Kevin Feterik.
Collie and Mahe are both considered among the best receivers in BYU history.
Collie set the program record for the most receiving yards in a single season with 1,538 in 2008. Mahe’s 1,211 receiving yards in 2001 ranks fourth in program history.
Collie ranks second all-time in receiving yards at BYU with 3,255, while Mahe is 13th with 2,163 career receiving yards.
Both players also enjoyed successful NFL careers.
Mahe made an impact as a return specialist for the Philadelphia Eagles under head coach Andy Reid. Collie played with some of the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks, including Peyton Manning (2009-2012, Indianapolis Colts) and Tom Brady (2013, New England Patriots).
History of BYU Football Alumni Games
The first three Alumni Games have featured thrilling finishes.
In the inaugural event, Max Hall threw a last-second Hail Mary touchdown pass to Bryan Kehl, leading Team Navy to a 31-27 victory over Team Royal.
The following year, Spencer White intercepted a tipped pass intended for K.O. Kealaluhi, helping Team Navy secure a 26-20 win.
Last year, NFL Hall of Fame QB Steve Young made a surprise appearance, throwing the first two passes for Team Royal. Team Navy nearly claimed a three-peat but was stopped at Team Royal’s three-yard line late in the fourth quarter, allowing Team Royal to win 18-13.
