O’Neal Fires Back Lightheartedly at Barkley’s Ranking: “Third-Greatest Lakers Center, Second-Best in Orlando”

If there’s one thing about Shaquille O’Neal, it’s that he radiates confidence and pays no attention to others’ opinions. This quality makes him incredibly entertaining to watch, especially on Inside The NBA, where he co-hosts alongside Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith. Unbothered by what people think, Shaq often engages in playful online exchanges with fellow sports legends.

This was exactly the case during a recent episode when Barkley attempted to tease O’Neal by ranking him among centers from his former teams. Barkley started by placing Shaq as the third-best center in Los Angeles Lakers history before ranking him second-best for the Orlando Magic behind Dwight Howard.

“But first of all, we have this incredible man. It’s been a pleasure to watch him play. You are probably the third-best Lakers center ever, right? And the second-best Orlando Magic center after Dwight [Howard]?”

In response to Barkley’s remarks, O’Neal quickly clapped back, emphasizing his championship wins as proof of his dominance. Shaq confidently replied:

“But I have more rings than you and him [Dwight] combined. I’ve got more rings than all of you.”

This wasn’t the first time Shaq and Barkley engaged in friendly back-and-forths on the show, and as always, no one could predict how O’Neal would react.

In this instance, Shaq completely shut Barkley down by highlighting his impressive trophy collection. At 53, he is a four-time NBA champion, winning three consecutive titles with the Lakers in 2000, 2001, and 2002 before securing his fourth championship with the Miami Heat in 2006. That season, he averaged 20.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists across 59 games.

Meanwhile, Barkley never won an NBA championship, despite playing alongside some of the greatest players of his era. He only made it to the Finals once, in 1993, but ultimately fell short of securing a ring.
