Philadelphia Eagles Reportedly Shopping Two High-Priced Veterans, One a Free Agent Miss
The Philadelphia Eagles will enter the 2025 season with a significantly different roster after securing their second Super Bowl title.
Due to salary cap limitations and the need to plan for future contract extensions for key players like Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens, All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter, and edge rusher Nolan Smith, the Eagles parted ways with several contributors:
Defensive end Josh Sweat (signed with Arizona Cardinals)
Defensive tackle Milton Williams (signed with New England Patriots)
Cornerback Darius Slay (released, later joined Pittsburgh Steelers)
Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers (signed with Minnesota Vikings)
Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson (traded to Houston Texans for offensive lineman Kenyon Green)
Linebacker Oren Burks (signed with Cincinnati Bengals)
Guard Mekhi Becton (signed with Los Angeles Chargers)
Running back Kenneth Gainwell (signed with Pittsburgh Steelers)
Quarterback Kenny Pickett (traded to Cleveland Browns for QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson)
Despite these departures, the Eagles made a major financial commitment by extending Saquon Barkley on a historic contract, making him the first running back to earn $20 million per year. They also secured Zack Baun, an All-Pro linebacker, with a three-year, $51 million deal following his standout 2024 season. Additionally, they signed several players on one-year contracts to add depth, including running back A.J. Dillon, cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, and tight end Harrison Bryant.
However, roster changes may not be finished, as reports indicate that two high-priced veterans are still potential trade candidates.
