LAWRENCE, Kan. – Following three scored events, BYU’s men and TCU’s women lead the standings at the 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted at Kansas’ Rock Chalk Park. The competition started Thursday and concludes on Saturday.
BYU jumped ahead in the men’s rankings with a strong showing in the final Thursday event, the 10,000 meters, where three Cougars placed in the top six. Texas Tech earned 19 points to hold second place, with K-State, Iowa State, and TCU rounding out the top five after Day One.
TCU leads the women’s competition with 19 points, followed closely by Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, who are tied for second at 18 points each. Utah holds fourth with 12 points, and BYU is fifth with 11.
Gary Moore secured a back-to-back title for K-State in the men’s hammer throw, . a personal-best 67.68 meters. This marks his second Big 12 win of the season after claiming the weight throw at the indoor meet.
Texas Tech’s women picked up 10 points as Shelby Frank delivered the school’s first-ever women’s hammer throw win, setting a meet record at 70.37 meters. On the men’s side, Ernest Cheruiyot earned Texas Tech’s first medal by winning gold in the 10,000 meters with a 29:37.64 finish.
TCU swept the javelin competition, as freshman Preston Kuznof took the men’s title at 68.32 meters, and Irene Jepkemboi repeated as champion with a throw of 57.59 meters in the women’s division.
