Former Detroit Lions left tackle Taylor Decker may soon find a new home in the NFL, and his next destination could set up a compelling reunion against his former team during the 2026 season.

In a recent ESPN feature titled “2026 NFL Offseason: Best Team Fits for 14 Free Agents,” analyst Matt Bowen named the Miami Dolphins as the most logical landing spot for the veteran offensive lineman.

ESPN believes Taylor Decker still has value

According to Bowen, Decker’s performance during the 2025 season was not among the strongest of his career, but the veteran tackle still offers significant value thanks to his experience, leadership, and physical playing style.

Bowen pointed out that Decker recorded an 89.3% pass block win rate in 2025 with the Detroit Lions. While solid, that figure ranked as the second-lowest mark of his 10-year NFL career.

Despite that dip in production, ESPN believes Decker could still compete for a starting role in Miami if he remains healthy.

The Dolphins are currently looking for consistency along their offensive line, particularly at left tackle, where Decker could challenge third-year lineman Patrick Paul for playing time.

Taylor Decker became a foundational player for Detroit after the Lions selected him in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

During his tenure with the team, Decker developed into a respected locker room leader and a reliable anchor on the offensive line. He also played a key role in helping reshape the Lions’ offense under head coach Dan Campbell.

Although injuries occasionally limited his availability, Decker consistently proved to be one of the league’s toughest and most dependable veteran tackles when healthy.

Potential reunion game could highlight Lions–Dolphins matchup

If Decker ultimately signs with the Miami Dolphins, Detroit’s Week 9 road matchup in Miami would instantly become one of the more intriguing games on the Lions’ schedule.

Facing a former cornerstone player would add another storyline to an already challenging trip to South Florida.

For now, Decker remains a free agent, but ESPN believes the Dolphins could be the ideal fit for the longtime Lions tackle as the 2026 NFL season approaches.
