The Detroit Lions Showed Interest in Kadyn Proctor Before Ultimately Landing on Blake Miller Late in the Process

The Detroit Lions have completely reshaped their offensive line over the past two seasons, leaving only one starter from their 2024 unit still on the roster—All-Pro tackle Penei Sewell.

The turnover began in 2025 when veteran center Frank Ragnow retired and right guard Kevin Zeitler departed in free agency. Detroit responded by shifting Graham Glasgow to center while inserting young draft picks Christian Mahogany and Tate Ratledge as their starting guards.

This offseason brought even more changes. The Lions released Glasgow and veteran left tackle Taylor Decker, opening major holes across the offensive line. Detroit signed Cade Mays to compete at center and traded for Juice Scruggs to provide depth at multiple interior spots.

Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that Sewell will move to left tackle, where he played in college, leaving a vacancy at right tackle. The team added Larry Borom on a one-year deal, though his contract suggests he is not viewed as a long-term starter.

Because of the need at tackle, Detroit was heavily projected to target an offensive lineman with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Lions were strongly linked to Alabama tackle Kadyn Proctor and even explored moving up in the draft, according to reports.

However, Proctor was selected by the Miami Dolphins at No. 12, forcing Detroit to stay put. The Lions ultimately landed Clemson offensive tackle Blake Miller, a player whose draft stock surged late in the process. One NFC executive reportedly viewed Miller as the top offensive tackle in the 2026 class.

Miller, who primarily played right tackle in college, is expected to solidify the right side while allowing Sewell to anchor the blind side. Detroit’s revamped offensive line now features no starters older than 27, signaling a clear long-term rebuild focused on youth, development, and continuity up front.
