The Detroit Lions, currently 11-1, will host the 9-3 Green Bay Packers at Ford Field for their 13th regular-season game, marking the final matchup of the season between these NFC North rivals on Thursday Night Football. A win over the Packers would secure a playoff berth for the Lions, their second straight postseason appearance and the second time under Dan Campbell’s coaching. Detroit enters as a 3.5-point favorite, with an over/under set at 51.5.
Detroit’s $60 million offensive tackle has been sidelined since Week 12.
Taylor Decker injured his knee during the third quarter of the Lions’ Week 12 win against the Indianapolis Colts, missing 14 of 82 offensive snaps. He was not active for last week’s practice sessions and was ruled out for the Week 13 Thanksgiving victory over the Chicago Bears.
He will miss Thursday Night Football.
Decker did not participate in Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday’s practice as he continues his recovery from the knee injury. The Lions officially listed him among the four players ruled out for Thursday’s game. Decker will miss his second straight game and his third of the season.
Who steps in for him on the offensive line?
Dan Skipper is expected to replace Decker as Jared Goff’s blindside protector against the Packers. Skipper filled in as the starting left tackle in Week 10 against the Houston Texans and again in Week 13 against the Bears. With his experience, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson trusts the 30-year-old lineman.
“He’s come in and battled hard, which is exactly what we hoped for,” said Johnson. “He understands his limitations physically and adjusts his approach. If he needs to adjust his angle because he’s not as quick as Decker, he knows how to handle it. He’s great at managing edge rushers, and even if they win a rep, it won’t happen quickly. He’s going to make them work for it. We trust him to fight and finish all game long.
