“Injury Update: Detroit Lions lost defensive lineman Alim McNeill to a head injury (concussion evaluation).”

The Detroit Lions entered their Week 14 matchup against the Green Bay Packers with a league-high 13 players on injured reserve. Three defensive linemen were already out for the NFC North contest, and now another has been ruled out for the rest of the game at Ford Field.

The team announced that defensive lineman Alim McNeill would not return after being evaluated for a concussion in the first half. The Lions are now facing the Packers for the second time this season without defensive tackle D.J. Reader (shoulder), defensive end Joshua Paschal (knee), and defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike (hamstring).

This is another tough blow for the Lions, who hold the NFC’s top seed and a one-game lead over the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North race.

McNeill, 24, has been a key contributor to the Lions’ defense, particularly in the defensive line, after edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson’s season-ending injury. The team signed McNeill to a four-year extension earlier this year, joining teammates Jared Goff, Penei Sewell, and Amon-Ra St. Brown with long-term deals.

McNeill has posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 79.5 this season and ranks seventh among interior defensive linemen with 40 quarterback pressures. He exited Thursday night’s game with one tackle against the Packers.
