FOX Commentator Danny Parkins Drops Brutal Truth About What a Bears Win Over Lions Would Prove

The Chicago Bears enter Week 18 of the NFL regular season with plenty already accomplished — and according to one FOX Sports commentator, a win over the Detroit Lions wouldn’t change much at all.

Despite growing belief around the league that this Bears team could make a legitimate Super Bowl run, not everyone is convinced that a late-season victory would validate them further.

Bears Still Playing for Seeding in Week 18

The Bears head into their regular-season finale against the Lions with an 11–5 record and have already clinched the NFC North title. Chicago still has something at stake, as they are competing for the No. 2 seed in the NFC, which would require a win over Detroit or a Philadelphia Eagles loss.

There’s also a revenge angle. Back in Week 2, the Lions dominated the Bears in a humiliating 52–21 blowout, a result Chicago hasn’t forgotten.

Danny Parkins: A Win Over Detroit “Proves Nothing”

While some believe a Week 18 victory could strengthen Chicago’s Super Bowl case, FOX Sports commentator Danny Parkins strongly disagrees.

Appearing on First Things First, Parkins dismissed the idea outright:

“Nothing. And I assumed for all three of you guys, nothing also… Why would Week 18 against a Lions team that has nothing to play for? You either believe, or you don’t believe.”

Parkins’ point was simple: beating a Lions team with little at stake wouldn’t change perceptions for anyone already watching closely.

Bears Have Already Answered Their Critics

For much of the season, critics questioned whether the Bears could beat quality opponents, arguing that many of their wins came against weaker teams. Chicago has responded by showing one trait few teams consistently possess — resiliency.

The Bears have won six games via fourth-quarter comebacks or game-winning drives, the most in the NFL. They’ve also defeated multiple teams with winning records, including:

Pittsburgh Steelers

Philadelphia Eagles

Green Bay Packers

All three teams are either playoff-bound or still in postseason contention.

Flaws Exist — But So Do Elite Strengths

Chicago isn’t a perfect team. The defense has occasionally surrendered explosive plays, and rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has dealt with some accuracy issues. Still, the positives are hard to ignore.

Top-five offense in the NFL

League-leading 32 turnovers forced on defense

Strong late-game execution under pressure

Those traits are exactly what playoff football demands.

One More Win Won’t Define This Bears Team

A Week 18 win over Detroit would be satisfying, but it wouldn’t redefine the Bears’ season. Chicago has already proven it can compete with elite teams and win close games — the true markers of a Super Bowl contender.

Whether people believe in the Bears or not won’t change with one more result. The proof has already been delivered on the field.
