Detroit Lions Host Veteran WRs James Proche, Scotty Miller for Free Agent Visits Ahead of OTAs

The Detroit Lions may not be finished adding depth to their wide receiver room after the 2026 NFL Draft. According to reports, the team hosted two veteran receivers for free agent visits on Tuesday as they continue evaluating roster options before offseason workouts.

NFL reporters Aaron Wilson and Adam Schefter revealed that veteran wideouts James Proche and Scotty Miller visited Detroit.

Lions Evaluating Veteran Wide Receiver Depth

Proche enters the visit as a six-year NFL veteran who most recently played for the Tennessee Titans during the 2025 season. He appeared in nine games with two starts, recording six receptions for 65 yards.

The former sixth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens has also contributed on special teams throughout his career. During the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Proche handled kick return duties while adding depth at receiver.

Standing 5-foot-11, Proche offers versatility with experience lining up both in the slot and on the outside. However, his offensive workload has been limited in recent seasons, logging just 247 offensive snaps over the last three years.

Scotty Miller Brings Experience in Offensive Packages

Miller brings a somewhat similar profile to Detroit’s visit list. The 5-foot-9, 174-pound receiver has carved out a niche role in multiple offenses throughout his seven-year NFL career.

Most recently, Miller played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he logged 368 offensive snaps across the past two seasons. While he has minimal return experience — totaling only two kick returns and three punt returns — Miller has consistently contributed in rotational offensive roles.

His most productive season came in 2020, when he recorded 33 receptions for 501 yards and three touchdowns.

Detroit Lions Wide Receiver Room Already Crowded

Despite hosting two veterans, the Lions do not appear to have an urgent need at wide receiver. The team’s starting trio of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Isaac TeSlaa is firmly established.

Detroit also added depth this offseason by signing Greg Dortch in free agency. In addition, the Lions selected Kendrick Law in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft and previously drafted Dominic Lovett in the seventh round in 2025.

With nine receivers already on the roster, Detroit’s meetings with Proche and Miller could simply be part of routine scouting updates. However, the team could also be exploring additional competition at the position before organized team activities (OTAs) begin.

The Lions have not yet announced a signing, but further updates could follow if either veteran wideout joins Detroit’s roster.
