During the 2025 offseason, the Detroit Lions made an interesting addition under general manager Brad Holmes by bringing in a player with proven championship experience.
Detroit signed running back Isiah Pacheco, who previously spent the first four seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. Pacheco arrives in Detroit with two championship rings after winning Super Bowl LVII and Super Bowl LVIII. His experience on football’s biggest stage could be valuable for a franchise still seeking its first appearance in the Super Bowl.
Judging by Pacheco’s early comments about joining the team, Lions supporters have plenty of reasons to be excited about what he might bring to the offense.
Pacheco Shares Excitement About Joining Detroit
Pacheco made it clear that he’s energized by the opportunity in Detroit. Even though he has already played in three Super Bowls and won two, he emphasized that his drive to compete at the highest level remains strong.
He explained that the atmosphere in Detroit immediately felt right to him and said he’s eager to return to the championship stage. Pacheco also mentioned that helping a group that hasn’t yet reached the Super Bowl motivates him even more, as he hopes to help the team achieve something historic.
The running back added that competition within the team’s running back room will play an important role. According to him, pushing teammates daily and striving to improve together is key to building a successful unit, and he expects the environment to be both challenging and enjoyable.
Holmes also expressed enthusiasm about what Pacheco brings to the roster. The Lions general manager described him as a tough and determined runner who plays with intensity. Holmes praised Pacheco’s field vision, ability to change direction, and his skill catching passes out of the backfield. He also highlighted the back’s toughness when breaking tackles and maintaining balance while finishing runs.
Detroit Hoping to Return to the Playoffs
The Lions are aiming for a postseason return after finishing the 2025 season with a 9–8 record. Although the team ended the year above .500, they lost their hold on the National Football League’s NFC North division title.
Filling the Void at Running Back
Detroit’s decision to sign Pacheco came after the team parted ways with David Montgomery, leaving a vacancy in the backfield. Pacheco is expected to share responsibilities with dynamic running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
Throughout his NFL career, Pacheco has rushed for 2,537 yards on 576 carries, averaging 4.4 yards per attempt and scoring 14 touchdowns. He has also contributed in the passing game with 88 receptions for 554 yards and three receiving scores.
One potential concern surrounding Pacheco, however, is his recent injury history. At the start of the 2024 season, he suffered a fractured fibula in Week 2 during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Later, he also dealt with an MCL sprain during the following season, raising questions about his durability moving forward.
