Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics probable pitchers & starting lineups, June 5th

The Mariners have a great chance to secure another series win, with Logan Gilbert taking the mound in game two against the Athletics

After a dominant start by George Kirby, the Mariners currently sit at 35-27 with a 5.5 game lead on the Texas Rangers for the American League West title. The Mariners have now won four straight and seven of their last eight (all against division opponents). The offense looked a lot more comfortable stringing together 10 hits, and only striking out seven times. The Mariners will look to secure another series victory with Logan Gilbert on the mound in what is a huge pitching advantage for the Ms. Gilbert will look to get deep into the game after Servais used five different relievers and concerns were raised about Andres Munoz’s back.

The starting pitcher for tonight’s game is RHP Logan Gilbert (3-3, 3.29 ERA), who is undoubtedly the greatest number three in the game and one of the better pitchers in baseball. Gilbert has struggled since then (5.96 ERA over his previous five outings), after dominating through April and his first start of May. Though the A’s offense has been unexpectedly good, Gilbert will need to exercise caution as this appears to be a great opportunity for a comeback.

For the Oakland Athletics, RHP Joey Estes (1-1, 6.10 ERA) will counter. Estes had a strong minor league career, but he hasn’t been able to carry it over to the major leagues. His lifetime ERA of 6.46 has overshadowed his strong 7.9 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 ratios. He has allowed more than two home runs per nine innings due to powerful hits and his propensity for long balls. Due to his ups and downs, Estes will require the Mariners to get on him early. This is a fantastic opportunity for the offense to keep getting better and build on their previous achievements.
