Detroit’s head coach, Dan Campbell, believes that both the Rams and the Buccaneers are strong contenders for division titles, which might lead to important tiebreaker scenarios as the season progresses.

Campbell emphasized the importance of securing early wins, noting that accumulating victories early in the season could be crucial for future success.

Historically, the 2007 New England Patriots, the 1984 San Francisco 49ers, and the 1966 Green Bay Packers all won NFL championships after starting their seasons with two games against playoff teams from the previous year.

The Lions’ most recent encounter with the Buccaneers was a 31-23 victory in the divisional round of the playoffs at home in January, which followed a 20-6 road win against Tampa Bay the previous October.

Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield reflected on the missed opportunities from their last game against Detroit, expressing frustration but also excitement about the current team.

He mentioned the eagerness to face the challenges ahead, including dealing with the tough environment and the competitive nature of the game.
