Shooting at Lions-Buccaneers pre-game tailgate results in one fatality and one critical injury.

Ford Field on Sunday afternoon while the Detroit Lions were competing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Local authorities reported that a shooting at a tailgate party in Eastern Market, a well-known area close to the stadium, resulted in one fan’s death and another’s critical injury.

Detroit Police Chief James White provided details soon after, identifying the suspect as a man in his 30s from Oak Park who is now in custody.

The altercation began at a building in Eastern Market known as Shed 6. White described how a large fight initially broke out but briefly dispersed.

The individuals involved then regrouped a short distance away, and one of them, an Oak Park resident, pulled out a gun and fired at least twice, hitting two people.

The heavy police presence at the scene prevented further violence and additional casualties. White expressed frustration over the presence of a firearm at a sports tailgate where alcohol was involved, stressing that the suspect would face serious charges.“

Tailgating, drinking, and guns are a dangerous mix,” White commented. “It’s a beautiful day, and it shouldn’t have ended like this.”

He criticized the notion of bringing guns to such events, asserting that if people want to fight, they should do so without resorting to firearms. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
