Some people still can’t seem to accept that the Lions are good and deserve positive attention.

The Detroit Lions extended their winning streak to 11 games last Thursday, and with a 12-1 record, they are tied for the best in the NFL. However, they haven’t yet secured the NFC North, with the 11-2 Minnesota Vikings and 9-4 Green Bay Packers not far behind.

Last Friday, before the Vikings won their sixth straight game on Sunday, cornerback Byron Murphy made it clear to KSTP’s Darren Wolfson that he’s tired of hearing about the Lions, with last Thursday’s victory over the Packers as the catalyst.

“Detroit won, obviously, and I didn’t like that. It was a good game, but Green Bay could’ve made some better plays,” Murphy said. “But it’s football, things happen, and Detroit won. We’ll see them soon.”

“I’m just tired of all this Detroit talk. I keep hearing it non-stop,” Murphy added. “I’m over it. I’m over Green Bay too, but Detroit is getting way too much attention right now.”

A 12-1 team is bound to get a lot of talk, whether it’s positive or negative. And the Vikings aren’t being overlooked. But hey, use whatever motivation you can.

Byron Murphy can’t understand why the Lions are getting so much attention.

After Minnesota’s win over Atlanta on Sunday, Murphy continued his comments about the Lions during a chat with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“Y’all need to start talking about us. We’re tired of hearing about Detroit,” Murphy said. “We’ll get to that [Week 18] game eventually, but for now, we’re focused on every Sunday. Talk about the Vikings right now, because we’re on a roll.”

Rival players expressing disdain for opponents is nothing new, and it’s completely normal. The Week 18 showdown between the Lions and Vikings is shaping up to be massive, and both teams are looking forward to it.

But Murphy is echoing the sentiment of many others. There are those, including rival players, fans, and analysts, who simply can’t seem to handle the fact that the Lions are good and deserve positive recognition.
