The Detroit Lions head into the 2026 NFL Draft looking like a team capable of making a deep postseason run, but there are still a few areas on the roster that could use reinforcement. Because of that, general manager Brad Holmes could decide to pursue an established veteran if the right opportunity appears during draft week. Holmes has a reputation for being aggressive with draft-day maneuvering, and with nine selections currently in Detroit’s 2026 draft arsenal, the front office has the flexibility to package picks in a trade. If that happens, several experienced players could make sense as potential targets during the three-day event.
One name that immediately stands out is Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders. The star edge rusher has been one of the NFL’s most disruptive defenders and is coming off another productive campaign that included 10 sacks and yet another Pro Bowl selection. Pairing Crosby with Aidan Hutchinson would give Detroit one of the league’s most dangerous pass-rushing duos. Adding the former Eastern Michigan Eagles football standout to the defensive front would significantly elevate the Lions’ ability to pressure quarterbacks and could push the team firmly into the Super Bowl conversation. If Las Vegas showed any willingness to listen to offers, it would be difficult for Holmes not to explore the possibility.
Another intriguing option could be veteran tight end Evan Engram from the Denver Broncos. Detroit already boasts one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses, but adding another dynamic pass-catcher at tight end could make the unit even more dangerous. Engram, a two-time Pro Bowler known for his athleticism and receiving ability, would provide quarterback Jared Goff with another reliable target in the passing game. He would likely slot in as a more impactful No. 2 tight end behind Sam LaPorta while offering an upgrade over options such as Brock Wright and Tyler Conklin. Should Denver consider moving Engram, Detroit could easily justify making a call.
A third player who might be worth monitoring is cornerback Kristian Fulton, currently with the Kansas City Chiefs. His first season in Kansas City during 2025 did not go as planned, as injuries restricted him to just eight appearances and two starts. During that limited stretch, opposing quarterbacks completed 10 of 18 passes thrown in his direction, with a high yards-per-catch figure and significant yards gained after the reception. His overall performance metrics reflected those struggles, particularly against the run.
However, Fulton demonstrated much stronger form the previous year while playing for the Los Angeles Chargers. In 2024 he recorded an interception, defended seven passes, and delivered more consistent coverage numbers along with solid run-defense performance. If he were able to rediscover that earlier level of play, Fulton could become a useful addition to Detroit’s secondary and provide valuable depth in the defensive backfield.
