Jared Goff Stands Alone as the Only NFL QB to Achieve This Mark Over the Past Three Seasons

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is preparing for his sixth season running head coach Dan Campbell’s offense in Detroit.

Over the past three seasons, Goff has separated himself from the rest of the league. He is the only NFL quarterback who has thrown at least 30 touchdown passes in each of those three years, highlighting his consistency as the leader of Detroit’s offense.

A big reason for that production is the Lions’ talented receiving group. Detroit is widely viewed as having one of the NFL’s strongest pass-catching units, and expectations remain high as young players continue to develop. Wide receiver Jameson Williams is still progressing as a deep threat, while Isaac TeSlaa is another young option expected to contribute. Meanwhile, Amon-Ra St. Brown has already established himself among the league’s elite wideouts.

Detroit’s offensive structure will now be guided by new coordinator Drew Petzing. His challenge will be finding the right balance between maintaining a physical running game and keeping the Lions’ passing attack aggressive and capable of generating big plays downfield.

Goff should also benefit from the presence of Mike Kafka on the coaching staff. The former NFL quarterback previously worked with superstar Patrick Mahomes and has earned a reputation as one of the league’s promising future head coaching candidates. Kafka spent last season as the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants and even stepped in as interim head coach when Brian Daboll was dismissed.

What could make the Lions’ draft successful

Several NFL analysts believe Detroit’s biggest priority remains strengthening the offensive line. According to Sports Illustrated, the 2026 draft will be considered successful if the Lions significantly upgrade that unit.

The team must address the tackle position following the departure of Taylor Decker, while interior line depth is also a concern. Detroit’s offensive line struggled in certain metrics last season, emphasizing the need for reinforcements—especially because Goff’s efficiency dropped considerably when he faced pressure, falling from 10th in EPA per play to 25th.

Holmes praises Detroit’s scouting leadership

During his pre-draft press conference, Lions general manager Brad Holmes discussed why director of college scouting Brian Hudspeth plays such an important role in the organization.

Holmes pointed to Hudspeth’s experience, attention to detail, and strong evaluation skills as major strengths. The two previously worked in the same southeastern scouting region earlier in their careers, which allowed Holmes to closely observe Hudspeth’s approach.

Holmes explained that while scouting methods continue to evolve, maintaining traditional fundamentals remains essential. According to him, certain steps in the scouting process cannot be skipped, and Hudspeth ensures those foundational practices are always followed because they are critical to identifying the right talent.
